America’s Cup World Series: nine team at the ready

Nine of the best sailing teams in the world are making their final preparations in Cascais, Portugal ahead of the opening weekend of the 34th America’s Cup.

The Cascais AC World Series Preliminaries consist of two events over the course of this weekend – the Cascais AC Open and the AC 500 Speed Trial. Saturday will see the first three fleet races of the AC Open as well as the exciting speed test – a timed, sprint over a 500-meter course. On Sunday is the fourth fleet race of the AC Open.

Solitaire du Figaro: Fabien Delahaye wins at home

At 13:14:36 on Tuesday 2nd of August, Fabien Delahaye crossed the finish line of the first leg of La Solitaire du Figaro between Perros-Guirec and Caen in first place. The young skipper sailing on Port Caen Ouistreham took 2 days, or 50 hours 14 minutes and 36 seconds, at an average 5.83 miles an hour to cover the 293.1 miles race that was full of surprises. The final stages of the race were played out overnight on Monday in the calm conditions and currents off the Cotentin coastline. Gildas Morvan (Cercle Vert), the highly experienced Figaro sailor, finished just behind takes the second place on the podium whilst Jean Pierre Nicol (Bernard Corntrols) takes third to complete the podium. Xavier Macaire (Starter Active Bridge) comes in first rookie in 5th place, barely a minute ahead of Phil Sharp (The Spirit of Independence), the first British sailor to finish, crossing the line in 7th.

The success of the first model of the series by was largely due to its innovative line, designed by famous Italian Studio Nuvolari-Lenard who broke every previous pattern, creating forms never seen before, but also shooting some details already present on the other yachts of the shipyard.

In the new , the same designers were inspired by the successful of the predecessor Spider 40 and the evolution of the work is gathered in an extraordinary shape, expression of the Italian style to conquer the foreigner market, starting from the U.S.A., where the first model shall be delivered.

Andrea Dini appointed as new UIM Secretary General

Andrea Dini has been appointed as UIM Secretary General with immediate effect. His candidature for this important role within the International Powerboating Federation was proposed by the UIM Executive Committee to the UIM Council which unanimously accepted his appointment at the last
UIM Council meeting held in Monaco soon after the annual Awards Giving Gala.
