Marstrand, Sweden: Ian Williams ensured Stena Match Cup Sweden stayed in British hands today as he scored his second consecutive win of the 2011 World Match Racing Tour. Williams (GBR) Team GAC Pindar picked up where 2010 event winner Ben Ainslie left off, coming from behind to defeat local hero and arch rival Bjorn Hansen (SWE) Mekonomen Sailing Team in an exciting five-match finale.

The world’s best sailors arrive in Portugal next week to prepare for the inaugural America’s Cup World Series competition in Cascais, the opening event on the path to the next America’s Cup in 2013. Teams are coming for final training on local waters in advance of the start of the series on August 6.

Viking has announced the launch of the new Princess Yachts International V72, a performance cruising yacht that can hit 37 knots when outfitted with a pair of Caterpillar C32 ACERTs that put out close to 3,500 horsepower. We won’t be able to lay eyes on the V72 until its appearance at the 2012 Miami Boat Show, but a glance at the drawings makes it obvious that this boat carries sleek, swept-back lines, plenty of outdoors entertaining area, and a plush interior.

The shapes of the “Classic 52m” are squarish, “pure” and inspired to the nautical period dating back to the seventies through to the mid-eighties, during which the ship yard has manufactured two prestigious boats, namely the 47 metre “” and the 61 metre ““.

J Class Newport Regatta Brings Yachting History to Life

Sly but sanctioned maneuvers. Strong breezes. Stormy weather. A split spinnaker. These are just some of the highlights of the five-race , held in mid-June.

The race, the first of a new J-only series, saw two of the most competitive Js afloat vie for bragging rights. Of course, the winning team also received a terrific trophy and a watch by Swiss watchmaker Corum. But really, each yacht—Ranger and Velsheda—just wanted to beat the other.

At 129 feet, Velsheda was still the smaller of the two J Class yachts.

WMRT 2011: Williams Wins First Tour Event Since 2008

Ian Williams won his first World Match Racing Tour event in three years sailing to victory at the Portimão Portugal Match Cup. The last time Williams (GBR) Team GAC Pindar tasted victory was at the Danish Open back in 2008, the same year that he was crowned World Champion for the second consecutive year.

Williams’ victory over Francesco Bruni (ITA) Bruni Racing in Portugal means there has been a different winner in each of the four completed stages of the 2011 Tour which is shaping up to be one of the most hotly contested seasons in recent years.
