just introduced their 42 Open express, and although this boat is the smallest express model in their lineup, it’s one slick little canyon critter. The 42 Open is Viking’s second pod-drive model, running on a pair of Zeus drives hitched to Cummins QSB 440 or 480 inboard diesels – which also makes this boat the Viking that’s going to deliver the lowest operational costs.

Team Aqua launches a new RC 44

The – will be a special occasion for Team Aqua as they race in their new boat for the first time. Chris Bake’s Team Aqua has been a leading force on the RC44 circuit since its launch in 2007. The team won the RC 44 Championship Tour in 2007, and finished first in the match race ranking in 2010 with pro sailor Cameron Appleton at the helm. Team Aqua was however sailing on the oldest boat in the fleet up until now, and decided that to maintain the momentum a new boat would be invested in for the 2011 season.

The builder tackles the task. The same goes for sourcing safety gear that meets classification society requirements, and even finding navigation and communications units. Furthermore, a semi-custom yacht’s design and engineering are proven over the course of a few launches. This lends peace of mind to owners who aren’t quite comfortable with the idea of a one-off.

With all sailors at the peak of their form, for the pre-Olympic year, when most Olympic selections are disputed, the Semaine Olympique Française, fourth event on the Sailing World Cup circuit has seen a great display of skills and battles at the top.

Robert Scheidt and Bruno Prada (BRA) who had won the event already yesterday, took also the Medal Race.

Largest Moonen to date gets larger

Moonen Shipyards in the Netherlands has announced that its largest project to date, which was originally slated to be 133 feet in length, has been extended by a further four feet. The fully customised 42 metre Moonen will now carry a submarine that is capable of seating three passengers instead of the originally specified two.

Extreme Sailing Series: Luna Rossa win the action-packed Act 2 in Qingdao

The dramatic second Act of the 2011 Extreme Sailing Series™ at the Olympic sailing venue in Qingdao (), that proved to be the perfect amphitheatre for the stadium format racing, has come to a close. Capsizes, collisions and after 29 races over five days just five points separated the two former America’s Cup adversaries, Luna Rossa and Emirates Team New Zealand at the end. The Italian team fought to the finish to claim the Double Star Cup in the very final double-points race!  “We are really happy,” said skipper Max Sirena, “it should be a long night for the Luna Rossa team tonight!  It’s a great result for us as we are a new team even if we have Paul and Alistair onboard who where part of the winning team last year, but Manuel and I are still learning. Compared to our result in Muscat, we really see the improvement here in Qingdao as our boat handling and the communication onboard is a lot better.”
