A fantastic Final battle between two-time event winner Mathieu Richard and Keith Swinton was won by the young Australian whilst Pierre-Antoine Morvan gave his overall Alpari World Match Racing Tour challenge a boost with a third-place finish today.

Alpari WMRT: end of the qualifying session in St. Moritz

A packed day of racing today saw the end of the qualifying session at the St. Moritz Match Race, as well as the Quarter Finals and one of the most exciting twists of the Tour season so far.

In an unusual situation, the bottom of the qualifying table provided a defining contest for the wider Tour standings in the very last match of the final Qualifying Session. Ian Williams (GBR) GAC Pindar found himself in a position where he would go through to the knockout rounds of the regatta at the expense of his closest rival on the 2012 Alpari World Match Racing Tour, Bjorn Hansen (SWE) Mekonomen Sailing Team, if he could come out on top of his rival.

Alpari WMRT: Robertson Finds Winning Formula in Second Qualifying Session

On a day when a lack of wind eventually stopped racing at the St. Moritz Match Race, Phil Robertson profited from a return to the form which has seen him climb to fourth in the Alpari Match Racing Tour leaderboard after four stages.

Extreme Sailing Series: Action-packed start to Act 5

Breezy and gusty conditions on Cardiff Bay ensured that the opening day of Act 5 of the Extreme Sailing Series in Cardiff, Wales delivered an action-packed day for the nine Extreme 40s. Austria’s Red Bull Sailing Team blasted round the tight courses, reaching speeds of 29mph (25.4 knots) relishing the conditions that put Roman Hagara’s men at the top of the rankings at the end of day one. “This was racing on the edge up to 25 knots of wind but we never lost control of the boat. It’s nice to be in first place but there are still three days to go. We have to focus and to concentrate and we can win,” said Hagara.

Cardiff Bay prepares to become Extreme Stadium

Excitement is building in the Welsh capital Cardiff ahead of the UK leg of the 2012 Extreme Sailing Series, not only amongst the locals who are eagerly anticipating the Extreme 40s Welsh debut, but also within the teams who after their last meeting more than seven weeks ago, are champing at the bit for battle to commence, as they launch into the second half of the 2012 Series.

Alpari WMRT: Jury and Berntsson unbeaten on Day One

Laurie Jury made an early statement of his intentions at the St. Moritz Match Race in Switzerland today as he took five wins from five in shifty winds on Lake St. Moritz and put himself in a good position ahead of the second day of qualifying tomorrow.

Jury (NZL) Kiwi Match Sailing was in excellent form, taking victories against reigning Tour Champion Ian Williams (GBR) GAC Pindar and two-time St. Moritz Match Race winner, Mathieu Richard (FRA) Loire Atlantique Sailing Team who gained a wildcard entry to the event. Jury finished the day by beating compatriot Josh Junior (NZL) Wellington Spirit, leaving himself on the brink of Quarter Final qualification.

With Bjorn Hansen battling with Ian Williams for top spot on the overall Tour leaderboard, there is much at stake as the world’s top match racers begin their battle to become ‘King of the Mountain’ tomorrow.

AC World Series San Francisco: Large crowds and close racing

ORACLE TEAM USA today captured the two championships of AC World Series San Francisco, thrilling the capacity crowds who had front row seats to close-quarter, fast-paced racing on San Francisco Bay.

The day began with Russell Coutts, the four-time America’s Cup winner, taking out teammate Jimmy Spithill in the Match Racing Championship. In a race that saw the lead change hands three times, Coutts eked out a 1 second victory with both boats screaming across the finish line overlapped at 20-plus knots.
